Walk up from the Quayside, past Newcastle Keep, and around a side street to the rear of St. Nicholas Cathedral, and come face to face with a terrifying creature of unknown origin – The Vampire Rabbit!

In August 1650, forty years before the infamous Salem Witch Trials, Newcastle hosted one of the most shocking mass public executions of those accused of witchcraft. And while the vast majority of those accused, imprisoned or executed for witchcraft were women, that April day also saw a lone male hung for the charge.

Arbor Low certainly has an ambience about it. Set on a hill, ancient, panoramic views, windswept and weathered, secluded (the adjacent farm the only house for miles) – it is certainly an atmospheric location, especially when under moody skies. So, if you’re in the Peak District, do pay it a visit

The Chained Oak still attracts many visitors each year. And the carriageway which tracks past the Chained Oak (originally running from Alton Towers to St. Giles’s Church in Cheadle) still remains to this day – and has it’s own tales.

When I was a kid, graffiti mainly consisted of penises, swear words and public statements of an unknown individual's sexual persuasion or availability (I never did call Julie for free sex, and I never did find out who London was, if he was gay or why a public statement on the matter was required!) Whilst in Alton, i had an invitation to take pictures at an event at a local pub for the Rural Brewing Co. So i took up the invitation and took some pictures. Also took some pictures of the village bike. The delivery bike that is, used by the Rural Brewing Co. for local deliveries. Yes, beer delivered to your door! Over the recent Jubilee weekend I was invited to take photographs of the Heritage Day and Street Party by Louie Young, who was helping run the events organised by Alton Community Events. This presented an opportunity to get out of my comfort zone creatively, which is never a bad thing.
