This Victorian prison was decommissioned in 2013. Completed in 1793, the building's over 200 year history history has seen estimates of between 60-75 executions on site, both public and within the foreboding walls. The final execution took place in 1961 with the prisoner, George Riley being buried onsite. During renovations in the 70's his body was discovered and handed to his family.
One can imagine that if two centuries of collective mental and physical impact can impress upon the fabric of a location, this would be that kind of place. Indeed, Shrewsbury Prison is considered, by some, as one of Britain's most haunted locations.
